In Memoriam of a fellow Garrison Member and dear friend, Drew Martin TK 297.
With heavy hearts and sadness we have lost one of our own . An original member of the Empire City Garrison, Drew Martin who was taken from us way too soon.
Drew was a NYPD transit and police Sergeant respectively. He Joined the Empire City Garrison in late 2000 along with the recruitment of Spat ( Errol Oktan ) and his contingent of Sandtroopers. dubbed "The Sandcrabs". They were the first Sandtroopers we had in the ECG.
When I first met Drew he was always by Spat’s side, sort of the first lieutenant. They were always there together every Halloween or conventions we trooped. They were the Batman and Robin of the garrison. You will find them always together, and that's where you know the party is at.
Drew had that personality that was friendly , warm and and gave you that feeling that you've known him forever, even when you met him for the first time. The man was jovial, always made you laugh and always made you feel comfortable around him. He was as big as a teddy bear and full of life like a cartoon character. I will miss having drinks with him and hearing his jokes and making fun of Spat.
My most memorable troop was our first troop together during Halloween 2000 when he opened the gates in the subway flashing his badge letting in at least 15 or so stormtroopers a Vader and Fett. saying: " these guys are with me". I thought that was the coolest thing ever to see , like having the keys to the city. Asking him at that time , "Drew is this alright? " He said " sure... we'll just arrest you guys later". . .. that was Drew , there was always a joke somewhere in there. Every Halloween since then when ever ECG trooped, Drew always had the keys to the City!
I can speak for all that knew him. He was a great Human being and an all around great guy. We will miss him dearly and I am one of the lucky ones to have known Drew Martin and call him my friend. He now has the keys to Heaven...
Rest in Peace Brother , Godspeed....
